Patna,(BiharTimes): Even as shopkeepers of Exhibition Road, Station
Road, New Dak Bungalow Road, Raja Market etc downed their shutters for
the third consecutive day on Sunday the Janata Dal (United) alleged
that the tax collection was less in non-corporate sector during Sushil
Kumar Modi’s tenure as deputy chief minister-cum-finance minister.
Countering the allegation of Modi that commercial taxes collection has
been hit after the exit of BJP ministers from the council of ministers
JD(U) leaders Ram Kishore Singh and Ranbir Nandan charged that state
had achieved less collection in non-corporate sector during tenure of
the BJP leader as finance minister. They asked Modi to explain how
much revenue was collected from corporate and non-corporate sectors
during his period.
Accusing the BJP of backing the shopkeepers who attacked the sales tax
officers on Wednesday they claimed there is more scope of tax
collection from non-corporate sector.
They asked how much tax the state received on commodities like
granite, marble, timber and ready-made clothes. It appears that the
state had been deprived of a large amount of revenue from
non-corporate sector during Modi's regime. He is praising himself only
for tax collection from corporate sector, they said.
