Montek favours Nalanda University’s inclusion in World Heritage site

Patna,(BiharTimes): The deputy chairman of the Planning Commission, Montek Singh Ahluwalia, joined the chorus in demanding the inclusion of the ancient Nalanda University in the UNESCO’s World Heritage List.

Ahluwalia, who visited Rajgir on Tuesday to take part in the meeting of the Nalanda Monitoring Committee (NMC) of the upcoming Nalanda International University, said that he found the ruins of the ancient Nalanda Mahavihara more attractive and wonderful than he had heard about it.

He would take up the matter with the Central government and also ask officials of the archaeological department to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) to develop the site and its adjoining areas.

Earlier, chief minister Nitish Kumar inaugurated the newly-built International Convention Centre here. It was in this Centre that NMC meeting took place. He said it was like dream come true that the meeting is being held at the convention centre, which came up at an expenditure of over Rs 33 crore.
