Patna, Feb 7 (IANS) A Bihar court Thursday awarded the death penalty to a 45-year-old man for raping and killing a minor girl four years ago, a lawyer said.
Describing the crime as "rarest of rare", Vaishali Additional District and Sessions Judge Padma Kumari Choudhary awarded the capital punishment to Bilat Pandit after he was found guilty. |
Pandit was charged under the provisions of Sections 367 and 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), police said.
A police official said that Pandit lured the girl, daughter of a washerman, to accompany him to a wedding party in Hajipur, district headquarters town of Vaishali, some 30 km from here, in May 2008. But he raped and killed the child after forcibly taking her to a secluded place.
Pandit dumped the body in a field near Veer Kuer Singh Colony in Hajipur, where he worked as a domestic help, police said.
