Patna,(BiharTimes): Following objections from various Muslim organisations, the Bihar government on Saturday amended a circular to schools to “ensure attendance” of students of class IV to class VII for “surya namaskar” function to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda at all district headquarters on February 18. |
Imarat Shariah, Jamiat Ulema and Idarah Shariah had earlier demanded that the Human Resource Development department amend its circular and add words like “optional or voluntary” to allow minority students to stay away from the function.
According to Director, Secondary Education K K Sinha the government has issued an amended circular to all district education officers, saying it was optional for school students to take part in the surya namaskar.
Earlier, in a circular dated February 9, Sinha had written to all districts education officers to “ask school and college principals to ensure attendance of students at functions organised by Swami Vivekamand Shard Shati Samaroh Samiti at the district headquarters.
