Patna,(BiharTimes): Mangal Pandey, MLC, will take over as the new state party president on Friday.
Forty-four year-old Pandey was the sole candidate to file nomination for the post, the deadline for which ended on Thursday evening.

Pandey is considered close to the deputy chief minister, Sushil Kumar Modi. With his election it is now clear that the Modi faction has finally prevailed. With his election there is now no threat to the BJP-Janata Dal (United) alliance––at least for now.
According to the election officer Arti Mehra he filed seven sets of nomination papers with Modi being among 107 state executive members proposing his candidature.
Outgoing state BJP president Dr C P Thakur appears to be upset on being denied a second term by BJP national leadership. He did not visit the party office to wish Pandey.
Earlier, Dr Thakur refused to meet central leaders like Ananth Kumar and Dharmendra Pradhan when they tried to contact him. His supporters shouted slogans against the BJP national leadership at the Jai Prakash Narayan International Airport and thumped the bonnet of the vehicle in which the national leaders were to be driven to the party office.
However, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Minister Giriraj Singh intervened and managed to clear the way
for central leaders Ananth Kumar and Dharmendra Pradhan among others.
