Patna,(BiharTimes): In another move, which may be interpreted politically, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday thanked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for praising Bihar’s growth rate of 10.9 per cent, which is ahead of Narendra Modi’s Gujarat.
When the media asked about the Prime Minister’s tweet praising Bihar’s growth the chief minister said: “Bahut bahut dhanyawad (Many thanks).” |
The PM in his tweet on Wednesday night had said that condition of BIMARU states was changing and Bihar is in better situation than others.
The PM in his tweet said that between 2006-07 and 2010-11, growth rate in Bihar was 10.9 per cent whereas in Gujarat it was 9.3 per cent.
“Bihar has left behind West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Jharkhand, Kerala, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and Gujarat,” the tweet said.
Though Centre’s policy, grant and investments in the states too play a very important role in giving boost to the growth rate of any state, and thus the credit and blame just does not go to state governments alone, there is likelihood that the latest exchange of good wishes between PM and Bihar CM––that too when there is slanging match going on between Narendra Modi and Manmohan Singh––may be viewed quite differently by the alliance partner BJP. After all when Nitish praised Chidambaram’s Budget the BJP leaders and ministers went wild and strongly criticized the Union Budget. Even the deputy CM, Sushil Modi, a close confidant of Nitish, flayed the Budget.
The very timing of PM’s praise to Bihar’s growth rate is interesting as election to Lok Sabha is only a year from now. Nitish’s equation with the BJP over the prime ministerial candidate of Gujarat CM
