Patna,(BiharTimes): The Bihar government has instructed superintendents of police of all districts to facilitate the speedy trial of rape cases.
Replying to a short notice question of Baidyanath Prasad of BJP in the Legislative Council, Minister In-charge Home Vijay Kumar Chaudhary said in some cases courts have given punishment to the accused in record time.
A person was given death sentence within a week of trial in a rape case registered with Barari police station of Katihar district and another three accused were awarded death sentence within 22 days in a rape case in Saharsa district, the minister said.
The House was informed that a total of 823 cases of rape were registered in the first 10 months of 2012.
