Patana,(BiharTimes): While noted singer Sonu Nigam was enthralling the audience with romantic numbers Surajhuamadham, Shukran Allah, Mera rang de basanti chola and other songs at the inaugural cultural function of Bihar Diwas at Gandhi Maidan on Friday evening the scene outside turned violent forcing the celebrity singer to repeatedly make appeal for peace.
Though the authority tried to maintain that it was due to overcrowding that things went out of control yet eye-witnesses said that a large number of para-teachers protested outside the venue against the Bihar Diwas. The teachers raised slogans against the chief minister Nitish Kumar and alleged that if the education department has money to organize such a big show why can not it pay salary to teachers.
Several chairs were reportedly broken in the process and many teachers received injuries as police had to resort to lathicharge.
The unruly mob hurled shoes and stones at the seated audience within the fenced area. A number of people panicked and city police had a hard time controlling them as the mob repeatedly threw shoes, empty bottles and other things towards the fenced area.
The scene turned so ugly that Sonu Nigam had to repeatedly ask fans not to throw chairs and stones and maintain decorum.
On the other hand Sonu Nigam entertained the audience with Aaja aaja mai hu pyar tera, Dhunki, Tumhi ho bandhu, Aivyehi aivyehi, Gumsum, Tu aaja soniye, Bachna ae hasino, Mere sapno ki rani, etc.
An audio-visual clip, “Gauravshali Bihar: Ek Atulya Pradesh,” depicted the history of formation of Bihar since the ancient times as laser light formed patterns on a transparent screen on stage.
A dance act by students of Bharatiya Nritya Kala Mandir on the tunes of Bihar prayer song Mere raftar pe suraj ki kiran naaz karein and Bihar rajya geet Mere Bharat ke kanthhaar, enthralled the gathering.
