Patna,(BiharTimes): Congress on Sunday appointed Ashok Choudhary,a young Dalit leader the new Pradesh Congress Committee(PCC) chief of Bihar. Choudhary is former MLA from Barbigha assembly constituency. His father and senior Congress leader Mahaveer Chowdhary was a nine-time legislator who represented Barbigha assembly constituency & served as Minister a number of times when Congress was in power in the state.
Choudhary was a Minister of Home in the RJD-Congress alliance coalition government in Bihar between 2000-2005. Choudhary, who is in his mid-40s, replaces Choudhary Mahboob Ali Kaiser.
Speaking to media persons here, he said: "I am grateful to Congress president Sonia Gandhi for giving an important responsibility to a young man like me."
"I will try to take all together to strengthen the Congress base in Bihar and to reach out to people ahead of the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls," said Choudhary.
Choudhary was named a day after the state coordination committee meeting of the party here in which it was decided to strengthen the party's base in the state. The Congress cuurrently has two MPs besides four legislators in the state.
Kaiser said he will extend all support to Choudhary.
