| Patna,(BiharTimes): Two sub-inspectors (SIs) of Bihar Police posted in Sitamarhi town have been suspended and departmental proceedings initiated against them following the alleged illegal detention of a Sitamarhi resident for 20 days.Besides, a fine of Rs 25,000 each was proposed to be slapped on them.
The action was taken following recommendations by Bihar Human Rights Commission (BHRC) on Thursday.
As per a complaint filed with the BHRC, Rahmat Ali alias Sunil was called at Mehasaul police outpost (OP), Sitamarhi, by sub-inspectors Mihir Kumar of Mehasaul OP and Mohammad Alauddin of Dumra police station on June 11, 2012.
According to BHRC member Neelmani, himself a former DGP, Rahmat Ali was falsely implicated in a dacoity case and arrested with five other criminals. He was released on bail on June 30 and a chargesheet was filed in the case on July 2, 2012.
However, Rahmat’s brother said that the police officers had implicated him in the false case because he had refused to give them his vehicle a month before the incident, and had threatened him with dire consequences.
Following the complaint the BHRC had earlier directed IG, Muzaffarpur zone, Pankaj Darad, to conduct a detailed inquiry into the matter.
The IG submitted the report nearly a week ago, in which the accusations made against Rahmat Ali were found to be false. It stated that the SIs had maliciously arrested him as call details of his mobile did not corroborate his contact with other arrested criminals.
Neelmani said Darad ordered immediate suspension of the SIs. He also ordered that the court should be informed about reopening of investigation of this case.
The IG’s report also suggested that miscarriage of justice could have been averted had the SDPO, Sadar, Sitamarhi, properly supervised the case.
The BHRC proposed to award a compensation of Rs 50,000 to the complainant, to be recovered from the SIs.
