Vigilance raids: Son of PMC engineer cries revenge by ‘bahubali’ MLA

Patna,(BiharTimes): The son of the executive engineer of the Patna Municipal Corporation, Lallan Prasad Singh, has said that his father has been targeted because he dared to touch the buildings owned by a ‘bahubali’ MLA of the ruling party of Bihar.

Amitesh Kumar, a Delhi School of Economics graduate and himself a well-placed person, dubbed the Tuesday-Wednesday raids by Vigilance Investigation Bureau as frivolous and the case against Lallan as false.

He claimed that the raids were revenge in disguise as Lallan took strong action against the realtors who violated the PMC rules and was also in the team which tried to demolish the top two illegal floors of an apartment located near Rajapur bridge.

The son pointed out that the assets worth Rs 2.50 crore reportedly unearthed by the Vigilance included ancestral land of his mother Neelam Singh and the flat purchased by he himself on loan.

Amitesh claimed to have an annual salary of more than Rs 20 lakh and said that he pays an income-tax of Rs 2.5 lakh every year, thus has the capability to buy the flat, which as per the vigilance officials was worth Rs 25 lakh.Amitesh charged that while evaluating the plot near Patliputra railway station the Vigilance indulged in exaggeration. It would not be fair to evaluate its value as per the prevalent market rate as it was purchased in 2003 when its value was considerably low. He also claimed the raiding team could not find even cash worth Rs 5,000 or anything which was not included in property return filed by
his father.

He charged the raids were actually a kind of revenge against his father, who, following the directive of the PMC Commissioner, did measurement of several complexes in the city and eventually a ban was put on the construction of many of them.

According to him they included a building at Shri Krishna Puri, a mall at Fraser Road (which was very much in the news) and another complex at Bandar Bagicha.Without naming anyone he alleged that a ‘bahubali’ MLA and an influential builder lodged the false complaint with an intention to harass his father. He claimed his father was also given death threat when his team had gone to demolish the top two illegal floors of an apartment located near Rajapur bridge last month.
