Manjhi upset over slow functioning of Savrna Aayog
Patna,(BiharTimes): Bihar chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi on Monday expressed strong displeasure over slow pace of work by Savrna Aayog (Upper Castes Commission). It was constituted by the then Nitish Kumar government in January 2011 to identify the deprived and underprivileged families among Upper Castes.
“They have spend over Rs 15 crore so far but has not written even a line of report,” Manjhi said while strongly reacting to its functioning.Reports said that the chief minister made this angry comment to Principal Secretary of General Administration Department D S Gangwar over telephone in presence of mediapersons in his chamber in the state Assembly. He directed Gangwar to convey his displeasure to the Commission which has been constituted by the department on government direction. Manjhi said “ask the Chairman if it was unable to deliver another person could be given chance.”
Reports said that the chief minister became angry after a group of ruling JD(U) legislators including Manjit Kumar Singh complained to him on functioning of the Commission. It was only on Sunday that he, while inaugurating several schemes in Jehanabad district, said that he would provide all facilities of SCs, STs and OBCs to the economically weaker section of the Upper Castes even before the Savrna Aayog
submits its final report.
The Vice Chairman of the Savrna Aayog Mohammad Abbas was quoted by the PTI as saying that ADRI (Asian Development Research Institute) has been entrusted with the task and they have promised toprovide the Commission report by March 2015.
He said no caste based census is available for the state since 1931. ADRI has been entrusted with the task to carry survey across the state on socio-economic condition of Upper Castes in the state.
