Bihar policewoman, senior shifted after sexual assault complaint

Patna, Dec 30 (IANS) The Bihar government Tuesday transferred the superintendent of police (SP) in Kaimur district and a woman sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) who alleged that the SP had sexually assaulted her.

A day after Bhabhua SDPO Nirmala Kumari filed a complaint at the women police station in the district against Superintendent of Police Pushkar Anand, both of them were transferred to Ara and Katihar districts Tuesday.

According to home department officials, Anand is one of the 14 Indian Police Service (IPS) officers transferred by the government.

Anand is a 2009 Bihar cadre IPS officer.

A police official said Nirmala Kumari accused Anand of betraying and cheating her after sexually exploiting her for months with the promise of marriage.

A three-member committee that includes two inspectors-general is probing the woman official's complaint.

"Action will be taken against any of the two police officials found guilty in the case," said Bihar Police chief P.K. Thakur.

Nirmala Kumari said she met Anand nearly three years ago. They became friends and came close to each other.

Anand has refuted the allegations and termed them baseless.
