EC launches Special Summary Revision of electoral rolls in Bihar
Patna,(BiharTimes): The Election Commission on November 1 launched a Special Summary Revision of the electoral rolls with an eligibility date of January 1, 2015.
Speaking on its eve Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Bihar Ajay V Naik said that there are around 7-8 lakh duplicate voters in the electoral rolls of the state.
He said that so many duplicate voters still exist notwithstanding the fact that names of around 3.8 lakh duplicate voters were removed from the electoral rolls before Lok Sabha elections held in April-May 2014.
According to him around three per cent of extra electors are still in the rolls and the Election Commission is removing them.
Those who would attain the age of 18 by Jan 15, 2015 can contact Booth Level Officers (BLO) between November 1 and December 1, 2014 for the inclusion of their names. They can also directly log on to the EC’s or the website of CEO Bihar and submit online applications.
He said new entries, correction of errors in the rolls, updation of database and printing will be completed by January 8, 2015. Final electoral rolls would be published on January 15. The state Assembly elections is scheduled in Oct-Nov 2015.
He said that an estimated 30 lakh errors remain though
around 1.2 crore errors were corrected in the revision done earlier this year.
The CEO said that the number of polling stations in Bihar has been increased from the existing 59,807 to 62,779.
