12/11/2014 BHRC serves show-cause to its SP for writing letter about Giriraj’s links to Ranvir Sena |
Patna,(BiharTimes): The Superintendent of Police of Bihar Human Rights Commission (BHRC), Amitabh Kumar Das, was on Tuesday served a show cause by the Commission for writing to the Special Branch of state police alleging links between Union minister of state for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Giriraj Singh and Ranvir Sena, the outlawed private army of affluent Bhumihars. The letter was written by Das to Special Branch Inspector General (IG) J S Gangwar, and marked to BHRC Chairman and two members a day after Giriraj was induted into the Narendra Modi cabinet. This created a storm in the political circle as the political rivals suspected the hands of the ruling Janata Dal (United) in it. According to reports the letter was written on BHRC letter-head even when it was not sought by the Special Branch or BHRC. His letter alleged “sweet relations” between Giriraj and Ranvir Sena. The letter said: “The central minister has sweet relations with Ranvir Sena. Singh glorified its chief Bramheshwar Singh ‘Mukhiya’ and called him a follower of Gandhi, when he was shot dead (on June 1, 2012 by unidentified gunmen). The minister also visited Mukhiya’s native village and paid tribute to him. This is a serious matter and it should be given to the IB.” After receiving the letter its Chairman Justice (Retired) Bilal Nazki immediately called a meeting with two other members, Justice (Retired) Mandhata Singh and Neelmani, who is a former Director General of Police (DGP) of Bihar. BHRC officials said the entire episode was discussed at the meeting and a show cause seeking explanation was served to Das for writing the letter. The show cause said: “You can have your opinion but at the same time you cannot give an impression that the opinion is of BHRC..Express your position to the Commission within seven days.” Neelmani later said the BHRC has decided to ask Das for clarification and for using the letter-head and the logo of the Commission, as well as, giving the impression that his opinion was that of Commission. The future course of action would be decided after getting the reply. What is surprising is that when Giriraj had “sweet relations” with Ranvir Sena he was a senior minister in the Nitish Kumar cabinet. Neelmani also served as the former DGP and Das too was in service. Yet nobody then raised the issue for obvious reasons––both the BJP and JD(U) were sharing power in the state
