Protest in Nepal over cancellation of Indian PM’s visit to
Janakpur
Patna,(BiharTimes): Madhesis of Nepal under different banners took to streets at Janakpur, Gaur, Birganj and several other places close to the international border with Bihar on second successive day on Saturday to press the Indian government not to cancel the proposed visit of PM Narendra Modi to the holy places of that country.
Modi will be on a two-day trip (November 26 and 27) to the Himalayan republic to attend the SAARC Summit.The Madhesis burned effigy of Nepal prime minister Sushil Koirala for not ensuring visit of Indian prime minister. They are of the view that Modi’s visit to Janakpur would come as a morale-booster to the people of Terai region.They asked the Nepal government to request Modi to visit
Janakpur as lakhs of Terai people have a high hope from him. According to deputy prime minister of Nepal, Bamdeo Gautam, who also holds the home portfolio, the government of Nepal has requested government of India not to cancel Modi’s planned trip to places of religious importance like Janakpur, Lumbini and Muktinath during his Nepal visit.
Gautam, after meeting the Indian ambassador to Nepal Ranjit Rai, said Koirala is very much worried as large number of tourists of these holy sites would be disappointed if the visit is cancelled.He said proper security arrangements have been made for the visit of Indian PM.
Indian embassy sources said they are reviewing the situation and reaction in Nepal following report of cancellation of visit outside Kathmandu valley.
