Patna,(BiharTimes): Lok Sabha on Wednesday passed a Bill to set up another Central University in Bihar. It would be set up near Motihari in East Champaran and named after Mahatma Gandhi as he launched the first movement in India in this district in 1917.

The idea of Central Universities in different states was conceptualized during the Manmohan Singh era. Bihar got one and that was in Gaya. But the then Union human resources development minister Kapil Sibal, agreed to the repeated demand of the then Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar to have a Central University in East Champaran too.HRD Minister Smriti Irani introduced the Central Universities (Amendment) Bill, 2014, first time in the House in August.
