Manjhi blames Nitish, fellow Mahadalit Speaker for resignation

Patna,(BiharTimes): The outgoing chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi squarely blamed JD(U)LP leader, Nitish Kumar, and fellow Mahadalit Speaker, Uday Narayan Chaudhary, for his resignation.

Addressing mediapersons an hour after he submitted his resignation to the governor Manjhi said that he was extremely perturbed by the sitting arrangements made by the Speaker for the joint sitting of the Bihar Assembly on Friday. He questioned the granting of the status of main opposition to the Janata Dal (United) replacing BJP. He also said that no arrangments were made even for his ministerial colleagues.
He recalled as to how the membership of several MLAs were terminated by the Speaker and accused him of indulging in all sorts of illegal acts.

He said that not only the MLAs even his ministers were getting threatening calls on their mobiles. Manjhi said that even he received such calls from various quarters.Manjhi said that he wanted voting through secret ballots. But when his demand was not heeded he chose to quit.

The outgoing CM claimed that had the secret voting been allowed 40 to 51 MLAs would have sided with him. He charged that several of his MLAs were even threatened that they would be killed.

“That is why I thought that it would be better to submit resignation to the governor,” he said He questioned as to how and why was the civil surgeon alerted and police arrangements made in the House. Was there any planning for violence? he asked.

He once again said that no doubt Nitish Kumar asked him to become the chief minister when he was not at all expecting it but in the initial couple of months he was not enjoying any independent authority, even in the transfer and posting of officials. He was supposed to sign on the dotted lines of the files.

“When my self-respect got awakened and I started asserting and did some works for the poor and downtrodden sections of the society the powerful and influential lobby started conspiring with Nitish Kumar to destabilize my government. The latter stood silent when I was being humiliated and insulted,” he reiterated.

He was surprised by the stand taken by Lalu Prasad, who according to him, till 15 days back had been stating that Manjhi should not be disturbed as he comes from the lowest strata of the socity. He once again said that he had to undergo all these insult because he is a Mahadalit.
