Patna,(BiharTimes): There has been a sharp decline in the Maoists’ violence in Bihar in 2014, especially in its second half, than in 2013. Most of the incidents occurred in the state in the first half, that is, during the Lok Sabha election.
Though it would be too early to say whether this happened due to the political changes in Bihar or because of the police campaign the state can at least boast it as an achievement. In fact Bihar witnessed much less high profile Maoists’ attacks as in Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand. But one thing is clear even during the parliamentary and Assembly elections Jharkhand saw less violence than in the past.
According to Additional Director General (Headquarters) Gupteshwar Pandey though there were 105 incidents of M’oists' violence in 2014 in comparison to 103 in 2013, the number of civilians killed was 20 against 36 in the previous year.Similarly only six policemen were killed at the hands of Left extremists in 2014 in comparison to 25 in 2013.
He said that 21 encounters took place between police and Maoists last year against seven in 2013, and the extremists did not succeed in snatching any arms from the forces. In 2013 the police had lost 36 weapons to them.
The ADG said that the police arrested 354 Maoists in 2014 in comparison to 259 in 2013. The forces also seized 1,785 kg of explosives last year in comparison to 40 kg in 2013. The number of detonators recovered also shot up to 2,181 last year as against 243 in 2013.
