Patna,(BiharTimes): The Misa Bharti episode has once again exposed the shallowness of the media reporting in Bihar. More than RJD chief’s daughter it is the Press which is to be blamed for whatever had happened.
With eggs spilt on the face it has become difficult for the self-appointed publicists in the Fourth Estate to defend their own action. So they are busy in just blaming Misa.On their part both Lalu Prasad and Misa strongly denied that the latter had anywhere claimed that she was invited as a speaker.
Posting photographs of attending any international conference is nothing new. Some enthusiastic audience may even upload them on the Facebook. In case of Misa some lower-lever RJD functionaries might have even approached some journalists to highlight it.
But the big question is: Can any newspaper made it a big story without ever cross-checking the fact? In this era of instant information why could not the media confirm it beforehand whether she was actually invited as a speaker or not. An invitation to Indian politician as speaker from any foreign university itself becomes a news.
Media critics in Bihar are of the view that it is now very easy for anyone to get planted any story in any newspaper of the state. Why the media did not crosschecked the list of speakers from the website of Harvard.
They should have become suspicious at the very outset as, to why of all the persons Harvard would invite Misa as speaker. Is she a Union minister, a great scholar, activist or a leader. She is just Lalu’s daughter who once unsuccessfullycontested Lok Sabha election.
Without doing the homework some reporters easily got trapped into childish pranks of Misa. So more than RJD it is an embarrassment for the Press. Politicians do try to hoodwink the people, but how can media be carried away? Its job is to expose it.
