Patna,(BiharTimes): Just ahead of the tourists’ season the Gaya international airport was on Tuesday closed for repair for at least three weeks.
According to director Gaya airport Dilip Kumar it will be closed from November 1 to November 23 to facilitate repair and recarpeting of the runway.
Even after November 23, it will be open for landing and take-off for only nine hours between 6:00 AM and 3:00 PM.
It was only a fortnight back that the last Haj flight returned from Saudi Arabia.
Reports said that the uneven surface and ditches at several points on the runway had made landing and take-off risky.
Reports also said that on Saturday, too, the airport had to be closed for more than three hours to repair the runway as its sizeable portion developed cracks.
This is not the first time that such repair has been done.
However, it is feared that the repair work may be delayed because of the shortage of labourers due to Chhath.
