MADHUBANI
PAINTINGS
Mithila
paintings also known as madhubani painting, is a highly acclaimed
traditional art form , dating back to the days of Ramayana,
the great Indian epic. the name is derived from the mithila
region of north Bihar where the art form originated and flourishes
till date.
The
themes used in these paintings, done mostly by rural women,
are typically divine and mythological, though social and family
rites also form part of the inspiration.
The
art form relies heavily on divine and human figures, besides
flora and fauna as its subject. The painting is done on almostany
surface--paper, cloth, silk, fabric, dress material, canvas,
tepestry, furnishings and even wood.
The
walls of houses in rural mithila, parental abode of Goddess
sita, are still adorned by beautiful paintings. the art form
has won national and international recognition for its originality
of thematic presentation, simplicity of style and imaginative
combination of color scheme.
