Patna, (Bihar Times): Former Bihar MP and Janata Dal
(United) leader Anand Mohan Singh has once again gone
on hunger strike inside the Bhagalpur Central Jail. He
was sentenced to death on October 3 last for murdering
the then Gopalganj district magistrate, G Krishnaiya,
in December 1994.
He went on strike on Wednesday demanding better
facilities in jail. Anand, it must be reminded, went
on indefinite hunger strike on November 4 as well.
That was soon after he was shifted from Beur Central
Jail of Patna to Bhagalpur Central Jail. He was
hospitalized and had to break his fast after 20 days
following the request from her mother, Geeta Devi.
Thirty-one other prisoners are on strike inside the
jail. They include former minister Akhlaque Ahmad and former legislator Arun Kumar, both sentenced to death
in the same case.
As per the jail manual a prisoner who gets death
sentence has to sleep on the ground with only two
blankets and has to be provided simple food.
