| Patna, (Bihar Times): The pseudonymous letter written
by ‘Sajag Bihari’ is now missing from the file of home
(police department). A case has been instituted under
Sachivalaya police station in this regard and inquiry
has started. The letter reportedly exposes about a
dozen top-cops of Bihar and charges them of sexual and
monetary corruption.
It needs to be mentioned that director general (police
building), Anand Shanker, went on leave, as his name
figured in the letter. On the other hand the
director-general-cum commissioner of civil defence;
Manoje Nath, who is also named in the letter, accused
some of his colleagues of hatching a conspiracy.
The FIR about the missing letter was lodged by deputy
secretary, home (police) department Jagdish Prasad
Sinha late on Sunday evening.
Some foul play could not be ruled out as the chief
minister, Nitish Kumar, according to the media
reports; ordered an inquiry after this letter was
shown by a private TV channel on December 1. However,
the chief minister dismissed the reports, saying he
had not ordered any inquiry. Director-general of
police AshishRanjan Sinha, too denied having ordered
any probe on the basis of fake allegations.
Bihar, of late, is in the grip of letter culture. If
in October a letter was sent to the the chief minister
and circulated to media and other top administrative
and police officers by, Reshama in November Anil
Sharma, a builder, wrote a letter to Nitish seeking
his protection. In both the cases Anant Singh, a
Janata Dal (United) MLA closed to Nitish was held
responsible for terrorizing them.
However, this letter is of entirely different sort.
Here some insiders have perhaps written against a
dozen officers, a couple of them apparently considered
as no-nonsense men of integrity. Whatever be the
matter something nasty is cooking up at the top level
in the state. The news that the letter is now missing
reflects the murkier side of the state administration
and police in this age of ‘sushasan’.
