| Patna, (Bihar Times): When Nitish Kumar became the
chief minister of Bihar on November 24, 2005 he
brought in many things new––even new swanky cars for
his ministers. The government purchased 56 luxury cars
for a sum of Rs three crore for 28 ministers. Two
years later these cars are being abandoned and the old
order prevails.
Some media reports hold bad roads responsible for it
while others feel that Ambassador is still more
comfortable than these luxurious limousine.
Most ministers complain about the high-maintenance
rides and lack of leg space.
Fourteen of the 28 ministers were granted luxury
rides. But, chief minister Nitish Kumar and deputy
chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi travel mostly in
Ambassadors. Luxury cars, however, remain a part of
their carcades.
Water resources minister Ramashray Prasad Singh,
according reports, gave a written complaint about the
new cars.
Sources said that the inquiry failed to find any
technical flaw in the new cars. But there is no way to
dissuade the senior ministers from demanding the
Ambassadors back.
Modi while talking to a section of media admitted that
the state government was going to order for 100 more
Ambassador cars. He added that the government was
forced to purchase more of the old faithful car as the
state had a number of senior bureaucrats and officials
in the sub-division and block levels who had no
official vehicle.
The luxury cars would be given to other officers once
the Ambassadors arrive in a few months.
