Patna, (Bihar Times): Bihar and Uttar Prasdesh top the
list of train dacoities in the country to be followed
by Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat and
West Bengal. Fifty-one per cent of robbery on wheels
take place in UP and Bihar.

According to a recent report of National Crime Records
Bureau Patna railway jurisdiction accounts for 23 per
cent of all the crimes on the wheels committed
throughout the country. This region falls between
Mughalsarai in UP and Mokama in Bihar.

Most of the crimes take place in Patna-Gaya,
      Mughalsarai-Jhajha, Gaya-Mughalsarai,
      Barauni-Samastipur, Hajipur-Gorakhpur sections of the
      East Central Railway.

About 2,700 crime cases were reported from all over
the country in the first three months of 2006, an
increase of over 200 per cent. Official figure shows
that at least two murder or attempt to murder cases
take place in trains or railway premises in the
      country daily.

Interestingly, in Bihar and Jharkhand not only the
criminals, but even the Maoists are engaged in crimes.
But the most shocking fact is the involvement of
Government Railway Police in the crimes.
