Patna, (Bihar
Times): The chief minister, Nitish Kumar, said that the acceptable recommendations
of the Maha Dalit Commission would be implemented by the state government at the
earliest. Speaking
after receiving the interim report of Maha Dalit Commission, which was submitted
to him by its chairman, Vishwanath Rishi, he said that there was no political
motivation behind the constitution of this Commission. The chief minister also
assured that the government would not deny any section benefits it was already
enjoying. What the state government just want is to give the marginalized section
of the society their due share. The secretary of the Commission, K P Ramaiyah,
was also present on the occasion. The
185 page report identified 18 out of 22 Dalit sub-castes as Maha Dalits. Prominent
among those are Bhuniyans, Musahars, Halalkhor (Hindus), Nut, Dom, Rajwar etc. The
four Dalit castes which do not come under the Maha Dalit category are Paswan,
Chamars, Pasi and Dhobi. They form 69 per cent of the population of Dalits and
are relatively better off among them. Among
other things the report recommended special polling stations for the Maha Dalits.
The literacy rate among the Maha Dalits is as less as ten per cent and there is
absolutely no share in power. There is not a single Maha Dalit in the administration
and they are least to get benefit of the government schemes. This is the condition
notwithstanding special reservation for the Dalits and tribals in the government
jobs and election in the country.
