minister, Sushil Kumar Modi, issued the order following complaints of large-scale
illegal transportation of cattle from the Sonepur Fair to other states. Modi’s
step came following the repeated complaints made by some farmers last year that
the cattle brought to the fair were purchased and transported to other states
in a large number. This not only leads
to the scarcity of the cattle for the farmers who come to buy it, but also cause
rise in prices. Quoting from the Act Modi said that “No person shall export
cows, she-buffaloes, calves, heifers, buffalo calves, buffalo heifers, buffaloes
and bullocks from the state.” Those found violating the Act could be arrested
by an ASI with provision of punishment of upto six months imprisonment and a penalty
of Rs 1,000, the deputy chief minister said Comment |
