Anant Singh: Know this man with all his anecdotes and tales

Amarnath Tewary

(Bihar Times) For the readers outside badland Bihar here goes a short profile of an MLA who recently waylaid all and sundry by holding TV journalists captive and brutally beating them for two hours at his official bungalow. The amazing anecdotes, terrifying tales and cranky character of this public representative may make one's pulses paced, throat parched, pupil dilated, heart-muscle twitched or faces flushed.

Some call him Chhote Sarkar, some terror of Mokama; some say him don-turned-MLA, some a man of medieval era; some believe him a dare-devil maniac, some a modern day Gabbar Singh but for all he is a man to be feared most in Bihar.

He is Anant Singh---JD-U MLA from Mokama.

Take a peek at what makes Anant Singh whose name even once made RJD boss Lalu Prasad stand up from his chair; Nitish Kumar to publicly wear him crown and the very daring Patna SSP could not muster courage to enter his bungalow until reinforcement.

An unlettered Anant Singh always speaks Magahi, the local lingo. He doesn't converse in Hindi properly. Coming from a toff and tough remote rural background he loves to roam around in the riverine areas of constituency riding on his stallion with his army of armed followers.

He was shot twice but defied death. Altogether 35 criminal cases registered against him but he was acquitted in most of them---- with strange tales of impunity behind it.

In his late 40s Anant Singh wears many perilously colourful persona. He is a devout bhakt of mighty Goddess and offers prayer religiously for one hour not forgetting to make red tilak and dots on his broad forehead and earlobes. He always wears beads garland and astrological rings on his hand fingers. Always dressed white at day time he prefers to wear black in night.

With his stout body he is also a good wrestler always ready to knock his rivals down with his turbo power. He reportedly does hundreds of push-ups and vigorous gymming at his 1A / Mall road residence in Patna.

Anant Singh whose name spells terror not only in his constituency but across the state has many anecdotes to shock and surprise people outside the Gangetic gangland.

Ever since his formidable entry into the nether world noone political heavyweights of any party could afford to ignore his presence. Earlier, like his association was with the ruling RJD led by Lalu Prasad Yadav. Anant Singh's elder brother Dilip Singh, who passed away recently, was a council member of the party.

Lalu's friend-turned-foe Shivanand Tiwari now alleges that Lalu Prasad used to order fodder for his animal kingdom from Anant Singh. Singh used to send him truckloads of fodder to Lalu Prasad.

But, that didn't guarantee any leverage for Lalu with dreaded Anant Singh. Once, some local journalists had gone to Lalu Prasad for his intervention in a work related with Anant Singh. However, as soon as Lalu Prasad heard the name of the Chhote Sarkar he just got off from his chair and stood up saying he could not do anything as Anant Singh was has a cranky character. Lalu Prasad expressed his helplessness and suggested the journos to talk to the dons' elder brother Dilip Singh.

Singh's old time friends recall he was a fearless man right since his childhood. He used to catch snakes and other dangerous animals and kill them with ease while roaming in his village Nadma in Mokama, recalled one.

The fearless feat grew with time and recently he hogged the headlines for keeping a python at his official bungalow in Patna. He had kept the python inside a glass house but when media highlighted and the wildlife officials visited his bungalow, requested him, the python reportedly was set free.

Similarly, he again hit headlines when a Merc Benz car was spotted parked at his bungalow. Since it was the first to be seen in the state capital the media curiosity take the journos to his residence. After some reluctance, Anant Singh posed before the luxury car, though saying it was not his. "Someone has left it here", said he, though, RJD boss Lalu Prasad charged that he had snatched the car from a NTPC contractor.

Earlier, Anant Singh was caught on camera posing before the horse of Lalu Prasad, Badal. Lalu Prasad didn't want to sell his horse to Anant Singh but the MLA who was hell-bent to get Lalu's stallion acted smart and let it to be sold in Sonepur animal fair to someone else. Soon after the deal was finalized with someone else, Lalu's Badal was in Anant's stable. Lalu cried deceit; Anant felt proud riding on his horse before flashing cameras.

Ever since this man from Mokama became an MLA he shifted his address to Patna and allegedly set his eyes on properties of the capital. Very soon his name plate was appeared before a huge iron gate of a prime property at Fraser road. The owner of restaurant running at that land cried SOS and even went to meet the Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar at his weekly janata durbar. An FIR was lodged against Anant Singh at the durbar itself but nothing happened since then.

Since that incident the landowners of Patna get shivers even when they hear the name of Anant Singh. The other day his caravan reportedly screeched to halt near a building when the don felt the need to relieve himself. Soon the police got an SOS from a shivering caller that Anant Singh was eyeing his building.

They say that the Mokama don loves to hoard money in hard cash at his residence. He even sleeps on the currency notes spread beneath the bed sheet of his cot. Even the anonymous girl whose body was found recently and whose letter had alleged Anant Singh along with his henchmen for raping and threatening to kill her had mentioned in her letter how the MLA showed her currency notes spread on his cot and asked to take as much she could for a favour.

A very popular tell-a-tale doing rounds in the state capital these days is that when the "most richest person" Reliance chief Mukesh Ambani had visited Bihar to meet Nitish Kumar, the Mokama don asked one of his crony how much Ruppa[rupees] he would get if he would kidnap Mukesh-wa and take him to Mokama tal area.

Formidable looking with ferocious face and dangerously upward curved moustache Anant Singh, police say, has armoury of sophisticated weapons. He even has got a long burrow inside his ancestral house in Nadma, had a long five hours gun battle with the Special Task Force [STF] personnel in which eight of his men and one STF jawan was killed.

Though, he was attacked by his rival Viveka Pehalwan recently and got bullet injuries but he rushed to Patna with his injured body and defied death. Earlier too he once had got bullet injuries but he survived.

The terror of Anant Singh spread its tentacles more ferociously with each of his survival. He became more dangerous to ignore for political bosses.

So, during the last assembly poll in 2005 he switched his side to support Nitish Kumar led JD-U and even had weighed Nitish Kumar with silver coins at his village. He got a ticket and won the poll on JD-U ticket only to become a Frankstein monster for the Bihar chief minister in later days.

Chhote Sarkar got support of Nitish Sarkar and so his diktats got more dangerous in forms. And, it reached to such an extent that he dared to take hostage of a national TV reporters and beat them up mercilessly.

The words fired and fumed from the mouth of the don during the beating spree of the journalists, in the letters written by the allegedly raped and killed girl Reshma Khatoon as well as of her brother Munna are enough to reveal how Chhote Sarkar has been running the rule of law in Nitish Sarkar.

The dreaded don Anant Singh's first brush with crime was in 1978 when he was booked in a robbery case however the first person who fell to his bullet was Ram Bol Singh, his neighbour. Later, his notoriety came into limelight when he avenged killing of his eldest brother Birachi Singh's killing. Birachi Singh was killed by the gangs of Munni Lal whose members were gunned down one by one by Anant Singh.

Anant Singh terror spread wild and wide when he allegedly killed Paramhans Singh in 192 and another don of the area Bachhu Singh a day before the assembly election in 2000.

However, last but not the least. Anant Singh allegedly got bail in almost all his criminal cases in a single day by a civil court judge, Rumour said that he paid an astronomical amount of money to the judge who was on the verge of retirement but once the don acquitted he even got his money back from the judge sahib after his retirement.

The list of Anant Singh's gory tell-a-tale and amusing anecdotes are endless and it appears to keep growing in days to come.

I strongly protest the use of Badland for Bihar and showing use of Magahi language as a sign of gundagardi.

Whoever the journalist may be, Amarnath Tewary or anyone else, he has no business writing such utter nonsense about Bihar and Biharis. Use of such expressions, which is nothing but a naked display of bias against Bihar and Biharis, takes away the credibility of the article also.

Chote Sarkar or Nitish Sarkar

It is a smart move by Mr.Amarnath Tewari to switch over all the responsibilities and misruling of present JDU/BJP government to former RJD period.
Also the article about the terrorist, criminal turned JD(U) MLA illustrates many ornamental remarks about Anant Sing life style and these avert the reader from
his sin to defuse the anger against Nitish / Modi Government.

These criminals are terrorist and acting as SARKAR. No way to blame only RJD for each wrong doing and wrong personalities of the present government.

How can a person order to vanish him as he was crowned in the open public by himself?

2 years gone and nothing improve so remaining 3 years will have the same occurrences, crimes etc and blame game to RJD.

As a Biharee we all know the restrictions of JDU & BJP ruler that they heavily depend on MLA like Anant Sing, Munna Shukla, Nitya Nand Rai and many more about 30 dangerous criminals.

I wish to Mr. Nitish Kumar that he should do some courageous action to save Bihar

This refers to Mr. Amarnath Tewary's article on notorious Anant Singh whom I know for many years for his heinious crimes.

In this regard, I would like to request Mr. Tewary that he should not use "badland Bihar". How can Mr. Tewary refers Bihar as "badland". Bihar is a land of Saints, Sufi Sants and many high profile honest persons, including late Babu Rajender Prasad. This is a shameful act and being a Bihari (my native place is district Jamui), as I have strong exception to call my state as badland. Please convey to Mr. Tewary to act as a responsibile journalist in future.

In respect to Anant Singh, I wish to mention that he grown up aggressively during RJD's 15 year long rule. This further confirms that no specific action had been taken against Anant Singh. If action was taken, he would have been in "swarg". This type of criminals required encounter by STF.

I request Nitish Kumar to keep aside in order to save your personal and party's image, as Anant Singh will malign your reputation and opposition parties will take all possible chance to cash this opportunity.

Let me tell you, nobody is above law, if properly and practically enforced, whether a person is Anant Singh or Anand Mohan Singh.

I wonder he must be masterminded in recent increasing violence, broad daylight lootings, kidnappings in Patna. If Nitish really wants "all round development", he should not entertain such criminals in JD(U) party fold. Nitishjee should show political will-power to eliminate these criminals from society, otherwise his promise of 'good-governance' will go in vain, as Nitishjee came to power to establish "rule of law".

Furthermore, it has been a tragedy for Bihar who in 1966 was declared a best administered State and the current scenario is far from way back in 1966. A state cannot be a developed state unless law & order is well under control. Once G.S. Kang said criminals cannot be stopped for commiting crime, but crime can be controlled. Therefore, please control the crime and criminal activities of political parties backed criminals.
