The police were under pressure to lodge formal complaints for the toll in the police firing Friday and Saturday, after angry residents of the town demanded action against guilty police officials.

Earlier, the Bihar Administrative Service Association (BASA) accused the government of suspending sub-divisional officer (SDO) S.K. Srivastava only to shield top district officials after the police firing.

BASA general secretary B.K. Sinha said the SDO and the deputy superintendent of police (DSP) of Kahalgaon were made scapegoats by the government to shield the district magistrate and the superintendent of police.
