Bangalore, Jan 26 :Eight passengers of a van were charred to death when a van hit an electric pole , police officials said.

A van carrying construction workers to Mangalore from their work site around 20 km away hit an electric pole early Saturday. The vehicle went up in flames after coming into contact with a live electric wire. The liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder fitted to the vehicle also exploded, fuelling the fire.

Eight of the passengers, six among whom were workers from Bihar, died on the spot. Three other occupants of the car, including the driver, were seriously injured and were taken to a Mangalore hospital.
