Patna, (Bihar Times): The average calorie intake per person in Bihar is very low. What is more shocking is that the cereal consumption in the state has fallen both in urban and rural areas in the last one decade.
A recent study says that 85 per cent of the rural population and 75.5 per cent of urban population in Bihar are unable to manage the daily calorie intake. It needs to be mentioned that the stipulated level is 2,100 kilo calorie for rural areas and 2,400 kilo calorie for urban areas. The figure only shows the abject poverty prevailing in the state.
However, it is felt that in a section of society the fall in cereal consumption has taken place because of the changing food habit. But experts are of the view that this is not a general phenomenon and the situation is really alarming, especially because in the last couple of years the foodgrains population in the state has also declined.
