Patna, (Bihar Times): Assembly election in Karnataka and revolt in Maharashtra to be subsequently followed by Gujarat came to the rescue of Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister, Sushil Kumar Modi. The central leadership––at least for now––is not going to replace him though the state party president, Radha Mohan Singh, may have to go.

But this idea of buying time on the pretext of Karnataka election does not seem to have cut much ice as rebels continue to attack Modi. They met in small groups in Patna till late hours on Friday.

On the other hand other vocal dissidents like former state party chief, Gopal Narayan Singh, Rameshwar Prasad, MLA, Baleshwar Singh Bharti, MLC, along with the newly appointed health minister, Nand Kishore Yadav, are camping in Delhi.

The BJP is in a bind. If they succumb to the dissidents who will they project as the Deputy Chief Minister of the state and how much will that person be acceptable to the chief minister. And if a much seasoned leader like Modi can be tamed by Nitish Kumar, who else can fill into this position. The problem for the central leadership is that there is no such person in its state unit.

Reports from Delhi said that among the measures being considered are making a request to the Chief Minister to reallocate old portfolios to a few prominent ministers from the BJP contingent and replacing state unit chief Radha Mohan Singh with a new leader. But the big question is: how will it be possible when the house is already full. With 36 ministers, which is 15 per cent of the stipulated state assembly strength, not a single more MLA can be inducted in the cabinet.
