Patna, (Bihar Times) : Denied the Rajya Sabha ticket
from the BJP recently cine-star and two-time MP and
former Union minister, Shatrughan Sinha, now plans to
make his entry into Lok Sabha from the newly carved
out Patna Saheb seat. Though still in the BJP he does
not consider any party as untouchable.
“Since I have been born and brought up in Patna, I
wish to make my maiden entry into Lok Sabha from Patna
Saheb constituency,” Sinha told a news agency from
Shimla on Sunday. A couple of days back he was in
Bihar where, in a function of the Indian Medical
Association, he asked the farmers to grow medicinal
platns instead of tobacco.
The existing Patna Lok Sabha seat has been divided
into Patna Saheb and Patliputra constituencies
following the recommendation of the Delimitation
Commission. The Patna Saheb seat comprises assembly
seats of Patna West, Central, East and Bhakhtiyarpur.
Interestingly, Patna Saheb has the highest Kayasthas
population in the state and another former minister of
the BJP, Ravi Shankar Prasad, has an eye on it. Both
are Kayasthas.
Though Shatrughan Sinha remained non-committal on the
issue of party he made it clear that “I do not believe
in political untouchability”.
But his reported meeting with Congress General
Secretary Rahul Gandhi recently had given rise to the
speculation that he planned to cross over to that
party.
However, at present Patna is represented by RJD’s Ram
Kripal Yadav, who appears to have strong claim on the
seat unless he is persuaded to contest from Patliputra
seat. Assembly segments on the outer ring of Patna
falls under this constituency.
