| Patna (Bihar Times): The national president of the
Confederation of Indian Industry CII), Sunil Bharti
Mittal, on Wednesday favoured special state status for
Bihar so that it emerges as an investment hub.
Talking to newsmen after a meeting with CII’s members
of Eastern Region and Bihar Chapter, he said he would
also take up the issue of special state status at the
national council meeting of CII in New Delhi in March,
and also with the Union government.
Mittal, who heads the Bharati Group, said Bihar
requires special state status. If this is not
possible, a few districts, having the potential of
attracting private and public sector investments,
should be given that status. The special status, he
said, would allow industries wishing to set up shop in
the state avail of certain tax concessions.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, deputy chief minister
Sushil Kumar Modi and a host of senior government
officials attended the interactive session.
He said Bihar has scope of investment in telecom,
agriculture, food processing, tourism and sugarcane
industries.
