Talking to reporters in Delhi on Sunday he said states
like Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal and
Assam have huge untapped potential. And if efforts are
made Bihar will lead them.
Bihar and other states of Eastern India are sleeping
giants and one only needs to wake them up. Reiterating
his earlier stand he even invoked Ramayana and said
the myth that Janak found Sita while ploughing the
field itself suggests the fertility of this land. The
mythical land of Janakpuri is in Bihar.
He said he calls these states as fertile crescent of
India which have every potential to become the new
grainary of the country. His comments came on the
backdrop of Finance Minister P Chidambaram’s claim
that the government will take all steps to ensure 4
per cent farm growh for 10-20 years.
