Patna, (Bihar Times): Suspended IAS officer Gautam
Goswami, who is suffering from pancreatic cancer, is
to get Rs two lakh as advance from the state
government for his treatment. The proposal in this
regard was approved by the state government on
Thursday.

At present he is undergoing treatment at Indira Gandhi
Institute of Medical Sciences and his condition is
said to be critical.
According to personnel secretary, Amir Subhani, Rs two
lakh would be given to him as per his entitlement as a
government officer suffering from cancer. Other
expenses on treatment would also be re-imbursed by the
state government. The proposal to revoke the
suspension of Goswami is understood to have been
rejected by the chief minister secretariat. However,
sources said that fresh plea may come up soon.
As the then district magistrate of Patna Goswami on
April 6, 2004 shot into fame as he stopped the then
deputy Prime Minister Lal Krishna Advani from
continuing his election speech at Gandhi Maidan just
after the clock hit 10:00 pm. Though Advani flayed his
action at the Press Conference the following morning,
the Election Commission defended him.
However, he was suspended after his name figured in
the Rs 17 crore flood relief scam detected in 2005.
Ironically he was honoured by Time magazine for his
excellent flood relief work. Bihar was devastated by a
massive flood in 2004. Goswami always contended that
he was falsely implicated in this case by a lobby in
the state bureaucracy after he resigned in December
2004 to join the Sahara Group as its vice president in
Lucknow. Many people feel that had he continued to
serve as IAS officer he would not have met such a
fate.
After one and a half years in jail Goswami got bail
from the court. Once out from jail he started working
as a social worker creating awareness about AIDS in
the rural areas of Bihar. He is basically a physician
and did his MBBS from Benaras Hindu University. Two
months ago he complaint of severe stomach pain and had
to be admitted in Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate
Institute in Lucknow, where doctors detected cancer.
From there he was brought to IGIMS for further
treatment.
Comments...
this shows how a good officer can get trapped in a filthy game of politicians.Mr goshwami has lost all his credibility and physical health due to, may be,one single wrong decision of associating himself with some dirty politicians. Today the politicians are enjoying but goswami is suffering.Govt officials of Bihar must take a lession from this

From your news it is clear that he is not a scammer. He was involved in flood scam deliberately. Besides these things, he is in trouble therefore on the basis of humanity he should be helped.
