Patna, (Bihar Times): A day after openly defying the
state government the senior doctors of the Patna
Medical College Hospital on Wednesday resolved to go
on three day mass casual leave from Friday. As if that
was not enough the Bihar chapter of the Indian Medical
Association decided to throw its lot behind the
agitating doctors of the PMCH and strongly denounced
the lawyers move not to take up the case of junior
doctors as this would amount to the violation of
fundamental rights.
In a letter written to the Chief Minister the state
IMA president, Dr Raman Kumar Verma and general
secretary, Arun Kumar Thakur, sought withdrawal of all
punitive actions against senior and junior doctors.
They also demanded that the government enter into a
dialogue with the agitating doctors, besides a
judicial inquiry into the June 5 incident, in which
three photo-graphers were alleged to be attacked by
the junior doctors and some employees of the PMCH.
While the lawyers are uniting there is clear-cut sign
of division within the lawyers community. Three senior
lawyers of the Patna high court, Rana Pratap Singh,
Pushkar Narayan Shahi and Rajesh Kumar on Wednesday
filed a bail petition of eight junior doctors of the
Patna Medical College Hospital in the court of
district and seesion judge, Mandhata Singh. However,
Bihar Yuva Adhivakta Kalyan Samiti and District
Advocates Association have decided to oppose the move
of the three advocates.
There are in all 265 doctors in the Patna Medical
College Hospital. The Steering Committee of the PMCH
doctors also submitted a letter to the new principal,
Dr C B Chaudhary, asking him not to attend office
during the agitation period.
