Patna, (Bihar Times): Patna will soon have a
super-specialty eye hospital. It will be an autonomous
body and will have a separate cadre for doctors. Till
its own building comes up in the phase-wise manner it
will function at the existing Rajendaranagar Hospital
in Patna.
The chief minister, Nitish Kumar, gave a green signal
to this proposed hospital. He also instructed the
health secretary to post six doctors on an immediate
basis. He instructed the officers to make a unique
composite structure for the super specialty eye
hospital.
To train the doctors it will have a tie-up with
reputed national and international eye hospitals. Some
of the eye-specialists from the state, who are working
abroad, are also keen to return.
A meeting in this regard was held on Sunday with chief
minister, Nitish Kumar, in the chair. Dr Rajvardhan
Azad, Chief of Retinal Services, All India Institute
of Medical Sciences, who is involved in the project,
had earlier held two meetings with the executive
director of the State Health Society, Bihar.
The chief minister reviewed the work on this proposed
hospital with the advisor of the super-specialty
hospital, Dr Azad, health minister, Nand Kishore
Yadav, health secretary, Dipak Kumar, the executive
director of the state Health Society, Uday Singh
Kumawat.
Later in the day while addressing a meeting at A B Eye
Institute, Bahadurpur, Dr Azad, who is also the
President-elect of the All India Opthalmic Society,
said that children born to mothers within 28 weeks and
weighing less than 1.5 kilo are susceptible to
blindness because their retina did not develop fully.
He advised the expectant mothers to have vitamin-rich
diet.
Incidentally Dr Azad, who is originally from Bihar,
had a very hectic day on Sunday. In the morning he
performed cataract operation of the Prime Minister,
Manmohan Singh, then flew to Patna for having a
meeting at the CM’s office and then attended the
function in the A B Hospital.
