Patna, (Bihar Times): The junior doctors of the Patna
Medical College Hospital, who went on trike early on
Monday morning, called off their strike on Tuesday
morning following the intervention of the chief
minister, Nitish Kumar. With the stir called off it is
now possible for the Medical Council of India team to
make a two-day inspection of the hospital from
Tuesday.
The doctors went on wild cat strike on Monday morning
after they saw a posse of police on the campus. The
police reportedly came in search of the junior doctors
involved in the Sunday night clash with the relatives
of Prakriti Bharti, a seven year old girl, who died a
couple of hours after being brought to the hospital in
a serious condition.
Sanjay Bharti, the lawyer father of the deceased,
lodged an FIR and along with other family members sat
on dharna outside the PMCH. Though after the clash on
Sunday night the junior doctors continued to work they
became angry the following morning after seeing a
posse of police party led by the deputy superintendent
of police. The police party was there to identify the
junior doctors involved in the clash. The junior
doctors complained that the police entered the campus
without any permission from the PMCH authorities. They
also sought action against the DSP and arrest of the
lawyer.
Though the junior doctors were persuaded to return to
the duty by the higher authorities of the hospital on
the ground that the MCI team will inspect it from
Tuesday they refused to do so. However, it was the
chief minister, Nitish Kumar, who had to say that the
duty of the doctors is to serve the patients. Strikes
are no solution.
The three-member MCI team, led Dr Malti Mehra, former
Professor of Community Medicine, Maulana Azad Medical
College, New Delhi, is here to inspect the existing
infrastructure for increasing the annual intake of
MBBS students from 100 to 150.
