Patna, (Bihar Times): Chief minister Nitish Kumar’s ultimatum to doctors that the state overnment would close down the Patna Medical College Hospital, if things are not improved within 24 hours, seems to have little impact on the doctors as they completely paralysed the functioning on Friday. Incidentally, the chief minister’s warning came 48 hours after the inspection by the Medical Council of India team. Among other things, the team was to assess whether the seat in the MBBS can be increased from 100 to 150 or not.

All these developments took place notwithstanding the intervention of the former Union health minister, Dr C P Thakur. The chief minister even refused to meet a delegation of doctors, who wanted to meet him, and apprise him with their position.

Meanwhile, warrant of arrest have been issued against 12 people, including 11 junior doctors. However, no arrest has so far been made. They include Dr Arya, Dr Vinod, Dr Anil, Dr Arun, Dr Sanjit, Dr Anand and an employee Sudhir Kumar. The police did not move the court to seek warrant of arrest against PMCH superintendent, Dr O P Chaudhary, deputy superintendent, Ganesh Prasad Singh and chief casualty officer, Dr C M Jha.

On the other hand the health minister, Nand Kishore Yadav, took his time off from leading the dissident camp of the BJP, and summoned principal Dr R K P Singh, and various heads of the department.

Now it is to be seen whether the health minister, scheduled to fly to Delhi on Sunday to attend the BJP meet, will be able to overcome this grave crisis in his department.
