Patna, (Bihar Times): Shitikanth is paying the price
for topping in the IITJEE 2008. On the wee hours of
Monday he landed up in India’s commercial capital,
Mumbai as living in hometown, Patna, has became
unbearable for him.
Thanks to politicians of all hue and colour, touts,
coaching institutes etc he is finding it extremely
difficult to live his normal life. There is always a
long queue of people waiting to meet him to
congratulate him and thus score political point.
Reports say that while some coaching institutes are
asking to endorse their classes some others are
inviting him as the chief guest. The 18-year old chap
is finding it extremely difficult to cope with the
situation.
To escape from all this trouble he landed up in
Mumbai, rang up his mentor Prof Vijay Singh and at
present is living on the campus of the Tata Institute
of Fundamental Research there. He was to leave for
Vietnam to represent the International Physics
Olympiad in the first week of July, but had to leave
his hometown a month earlier.
Patna no doubt has emerged as one of the leading IIT
producer of the country, but it has a negative fall
out too. Last year a controversy arose between
I-Desire, a coaching institute run by some IITians and
Super-30. I-Desire, with the help of a senior police officer produced
before the chief minister some of the successful
candidates, claiming to be their own. A day later
Super-30 of Anand Kumar alleged that some of the
students whom I-Desire claim to have been theirs are
in fact of Super-30. The latter enjoys the patronage
of the ADG, Abhayanand. The two top super-cops of
Bihar do not see eye to eye, therefore, the whole
exercise acquired a political dimension.
Shitikanth proved smarter. He simply chose to give a
slip.
