Patna, (Bihar Times): The vice president of the
Kolkata-based Tantia Construction Company, the private
firm engaged in road construction work in Patna, Sujit
Kumar Dasgupta, has described the state government’s
decision to cancel contract as arbitrary and
unilateral. The government did not listen to the
problems the TCC was facing, which led to delay of
these projects. He said that “we will seek legal
opinion and appeal against the department’s action.”
The state government on Friday served a show cause
notice to the firm and asked it to stop work. The
department of Road Construction has served a
show-cause notice to the Tantia Construction Company
(TCC) seeking to know why it should not not be
blacklisted for unsatisfactory works, Principal
secretary Road Construction department, Rajkumar Singh
said. It needs to be mentioned that the action came
after Prem Kumar replaced Nand Kishore Yadav as the
road construction minister of Bihar on April 13.
According to Singh the government has taken away jobs
for construction of over 20 roads the contract for
which awarded to the TCC for around Rs 150 crore as
its works remain far from satisfactory.
The deadline for the completion of these works was
August next. With the contract cancelled there is no
likelihood of the condition of roads improving in
Patna.
It needs to be mentioned that the state government had
earlier slapped fines on the company for alleged tardy
pace of construction works done by it as all the
projects were running behind schedule.
The firm had to renovate and expand Birchand Patel
Path, Boring Road, Hardinge Road, Sahdeo Mahato Marg,
Jagdeo Path, Old Bypass, West Boring Canal Road, East
Boring Canal Road, Rajendra Path, Mithapur-Khagaul
Road, Bailey Road, Exhibition Road, Bari Path,
Kankarbagh Road No. 1 and 2, Arya Kumar Road and other
important roads in the state capital. The total length
of these road is 85 kms.
Singh said the state government would soon invite
tender for completion of rest of the works of
construction of roads.
