Patna (Bihar Times): Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on
Monday asked the IG (Patna Zone) to investigate the
matter leading to the resignation of 64 NDA leaders
and workers of Imamaganj assembly constituency of
Gaya, which is represented in the state assembly by
the speaker, Uday Narayan Chaudhary. They reportedly
quit their posts following the diktat from the
Maoists.
The chief minister said that he had taken a serious
note of media reports of several NDA workers having
left their parties in three blocks of Gaya district.
The three blocks are Imamganj, Dumaria and Banke Bazar
and fall under the Imamganj assembly segment of the
state.
The IG (Patna Zone) Sunil Kumar will investigate
alleged police atrocities and implication of innocent
people in false cases. It is after the police
crackdown that Maoists on Tuesday last abducted 24 NDA
men and issued deadline till Sunday last for all of
them to resign. None dared to oppose and all of them
submitted their resignation.
The chief minister said the IG was authorized to take
action against police officials responsible for
alleged atrocities on the innocent people. Nitish
assured that effective political and police action
would be taken to tackle the problem in the naxal-hit
district after the two committees submit their
reports.
Reports say that a high-level committee comprising
senior party leaders from the state and from outside
would also be constituted in consultation with JD(U)
President Sharad Yadav to look into the charge of lack
of development in three blocks.
It needs to be mentioned that among others three
Janata Dal (U) and BJP block presidents had resigned
from the party on Sunday, 12 hours before the expiry
of the Maoists’ deadline.
