Patna, May 6 : A Bihar judge's family has threatened self-immolation in front of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's official residence here if the state government failed to order a Central Bureau Investigation (CBI) probe into the disappearance of their daughter from a train Aug 15 last year.
The family demanded the CBI probe into the disappearance of Rani Archana, 30, daughter of additional district and sessions judge Subhash Chandra Prasad, from the Capital Express train while travelling to Patna from New Jalpaiguri in West Bengal. The police have so far failed to trace her.
"My entire family will commit self-immolation if the government fails to order a CBI enquiry into the case," Archana's mother Malti Devi told IANS here Tuesday.
Frustrated after running from pillar to post seeking justice, Malti Devi said she and her son Ravishankar met Chief Minister Nitish Kumar Monday and sought a CBI probe into the case.
"I had approached the chief minister seeking justice. We have lost faith in the assurances by the police to find my daughter," she said.
Nearly nine months after the police failed to trace Archana, her family members were disappointed.
Ravishankar said they had approached the police several times, but to no avail.
Malti Devi questioned the role of the state police in the investigation to trace her daughter. "The police in Patna described it as a kidnapping case, while the Railway police had concluded it to be a case of murder," she said.
The family has yet received no ransom demand.
Malti Devi said her repeated requests for conducting a narco-analysis test on Archana's husband Rajiv have been ignored till date.
According to the first information report (FIR), the couple had dinner at Katihar railway station at around 8.30 p.m. Aug 14. They then went to sleep, with Rajiv occupying the lower berth and Archana the upper berth.
The FIR said when Rajiv woke up at around 5 a.m., he found his wife missing though all her belongings were intact.
Rajiv and Archana had gone for their honeymoon to Darjeeling Aug 10.
Police later registered a dowry/harassment case against Rajiv after a hue and cry was raised by Archana's family.
