Patna, (Bihar Times): Earthquake in China has rendered
many Indian students studying in medical colleges
there literally homeless. Many of them are from Bihar.
According to a newspaper report dozens of Indian
medical students are stranded in the football ground
of a university in Chengdu. They are now desperate to
return home. Chengdu is the capital of Sichuan
province, which on May 12, was devastated by a
powerful earthquake which killed over 50,000 people.
The report quoted a third year medical student from
Bihar as saying that there are in all 38 students from
India in his batch alone and there are many more in
different classes. He told a newsperson in Beijing
over phone that whenever students enter their hostel
rooms they  feel aftershocks of earthquake. He also
said that the Indian embassy should intervene and
assure their return to their homes back in India. The
students also want the exam to be rescheduled from
June to August.
Biharis form a sizeable number of those studying in
medical colleges in Russia, Ukraine and now China.
