Patna, (Bihar Times): The deputy chief
minister-cum-finance minister, Sushil Kumar Modi, on
Tuesday strongly criticized the
State Bank of India’s decision not to finance
agriculture equipment.
He said that it would have a tremendous impact on the
farmers of Bihar and may wreak havoc on the
agriculture plan of the state.
According to him marginal farmers do not have the
money to buy agricultural equipment like power tillers
and tractors required for modernising agriculture.
He said that the bank decision came at the time when
the state government launched the Agriculture Roadmap
for the development of agriculture, co-operative and
other related sectors. He said that this incidentally
is happening only a few months after the Centre waived
Rs 60,000 crores of loans to the farmers. Modi said
that the four per cent agriculture growth would remain
a pipedream if SBI does not change its decision.
