Patna, (Bihar Times): Fresh from Singapore and
Malaysia, where he left his marks, railway minister
Lalu Prasad Yadav promised to get Mono-Rail
constructed in Patna.
He said that he had ordered a survey of the state
capital and preparation of a feasibility report as
Mono-Rail will ease the traffic in the congested state
capital. He was really impressed by the Mono-Rail in
Singapore.
Lalu said that it was his dream project and he wants
to implement it in Patna. The railways will undertake
a survey of the entire city from Patna Junction to
Gandhi Maidan, Chirayatand, Patna City, Ashok Rapath
and Digha to Danapur and Phulwarisharif. A detailed
feasibility report will be prepared after the survey
and it would be ensured that the work on this project
starts soon.
The proposed project would be good for the daily
passengers. Lalu said that he had already announced
Patna station would be developed as the world class
railway station. He, however, charged the state
government with not providing land required by the
railways for several projects, including 40
rail-cum-road over-bridges.
Criticizing the Nitish Kumar government he said that
it promised to convert Patna into Singapore but in
fact ended up making it a heritage city, where
excavation work is going on. The roadside digging all
over the state capital only suggests that Patna is in
ruins. He held the chief minster directly responsible
for it and equated him with Mohammad Bin Tughlaq. Like
the medieval Sultan there is no consistency in this
government. Projects are taken up and abandoned
without being completed.
Lalu said that charges against his brother, Gulab Rai
and another relative, is baseless. He told journalists
that acquiring land and giving compensation is the
state subject. Therefore, it would be better to ask
the state government rather than him.
He also threatened to take legal action against the
state BJP chief, Radha Mohan Singh and other party
leaders, for levelling baseless charges against his
family members. They have levelled absolutely baselss
allegations.
Comments...
A well implemented monorail has the potential of solving the traffic problem in the already congested Patna. Moreover for long distances in a city, mono-rail could be a great relief. This is a great idea and needs to be implemented as soon as possible before the seed dies.

Here is another gimmick! What did Lalu do to improve the roads and traffics in Patna while he was Chief Minister for 10 years? Before thinking of such a project, he should address basics first such as road construction & maintenance, Traffic regulation, encroachments etc.
