Patna, (Bihar Times): Chief minister Nitish Kumar on
Tuesday launched the smart driving licence card under
the Fully Automated Series Transport (FAST) scheme of
the state transport department.
The new licence will be much smaller and sleek and
will replace the existing booklet. This card will cost
Rs 300 more in addition to the licence fee and the
licence will be ready within a few hours.
The chief minister lauded the efforts of the transport
department and the National Informatics Centre for
introducing the card. Bihar is among the first state
to launch this scheme and this would made a
qualitative improvement in the functioning of the
transport department.
Sathi and Vahan are the two software introduced for
the purpose. This will improve the grievances of the
vehicle-owners. This scheme will be extended to the
other districts of the state too. The chief minister,
who holds the transport portfolio, himself distributed
smart card to five vehicle-owners.
