Doctors rubbish male pregnancy report

Patna, March 1 : A team of doctors from the Bihar chapter of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has rubbished a television report of a man being found seven months pregnant, and termed the whole episode as fake.

A local television channel had reported that Naresh Kumar (name changed), 18, of Deshrajpur village in Vaishali district, was medically examined by his doctor and found pregnant.

The IMA team along with the civil surgeon of Vaishali district hospital conducted an inquiry.

"There is no case of male pregnancy at all, no foetus or uterus was found in him," Ashok Kumar Sinha, the civil surgeon, told IANS over telephone Saturday night.

Sinha said that the reported case of male pregnancy was found to be a fake one.

Naresh was reported to have said that when he was working in a factory in Ludhiana he was forcibly sodomised by a group of men and he subsequently developed pain in his stomach.

According to him, after frequent pain in his stomach, he consulted a doctor, who conducted an ultra-sound test.

"My family took me to a doctor in Hajipur, who conducted an ultra-sound test, and the report stated that I was pregnant," he said.

IMA state president Basant Singh said the association would initiate legal action against the doctor who had said that Naresh was pregnant.
